Letter from the President
Updated 02/03/2012
Happy New Year to you all. By now, I would guess that you are all back on your horses, brushing off piles of hair, tightening up that lead change and preparing for our first show. I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that your board has been hard at work throughout the lay-off and has put together a schedule that we hope will make this our best season ever.
Of specific interest, I wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of the calendar change to our current show schedule, whereby we will be conducting our first show all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and not showing on Sunday. This was done based on a fairly decisive vote in favor of this schedule by you, our members, at the year-end banquet. I want to make sure that you all know that this decision was not done in a vacuum and is still a bit of an experiment. Throughout the winter, I have heard from many people about many reasons why this does (or does not) work for them. So what I would ask is that you all give it a shot in March, and that each and every one of you openly and objectively provide feedback on the outcome of that show. Of particular concern to many was the fact that a lot of us work on Thursday, but not on Sunday. I too have that concern. Also, the early start on Thursday may require travel on Wednesday, or that a late finish on Saturday would likely lead to a Sunday departure. Finally, that the number of entries would cause days to be extremely long for our trainers, horses, members and staff. The board will be taking its own notes during and after this show, and I am very interested in your comments on these particular subjects. After the show, I will be reading all of those comments, and we will then determine if this is a reasonable solution going forward.
Remember, the primary reason for the existence of this club is to provide fun, clean, family entertainment. It is here to be enjoyed, and I have set my focus on ensuring that it, and its shows, are a place that people want to be. I am not na?ve enough to believe that we will make all of the people happy, all of the time. However, I do believe that we can certainly strive to make most of the people happy, most of the time. If you believe that we are not achieving that goal, I would like to hear about it.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to seeing you all in March!
Respectfully,
Greg Petersen, President
